Journal managers from all over the country gathered in the 2nd National Seminar-Workshop on Research Journal Management (NSW-RJM) hosted by Quill Solutions in partnership with Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU) held at Subic Bay Travelers Hotel, Subic Bay Freeport, Philippines on February 22-25, 2016.
The seminar-workshop aimed to discuss international and Philippine standards for journal management, share experiential success stories and best practices in journal management and accreditation from seasoned editors and journal managers, and assess and benchmark strategies of journal management from the pre to the post-publication phases through workshops.
Participating the event are the 40 journal managers and editorial personnel from Aklan State University (ASU), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), Bohol Island State University (BISU), Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), University of Antique (UA), Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), and RMTU.
According to Dr. Cornelio C. Garcia, RMTU President, the program is aligned to the CHEd’s mandate to SUCs to excel in research and produce output that will contribute to nation’s progress.
Dr. Donna Lou E. Neri, Asian Journal of Health Editor-in-Chief discussed the journal publication standards and governance. She also highlighted the editors’ responsibilities, policies and guidelines in journal management and peer review system.
“Within scholarly publishing it is important for readers to be confident that the article they are reading has been checked for its scientific validity and to reassure that the article has reach a quality level,” said Dr. Neri to emphasize why articles should undergo peer review.
Mr. Jony V. Berjes, President of Quill Solutions assessed the journals of SUCs and tackled the essentials of journal layout and design. Moreover, Mr. Berjes stressed that research journals are academic publications and standards in layout and pubication must be observed. He also pointed out that print publication is waning in popularity and SUCs should be open to online publishing.
Meanwhile, Dr. Brian A. Vasquez, Center for Research and Development director shared his experiences and best practices in managing the University of the Visayas (UV) Journal of Research, a Category A CHED-Journal Accreditation Service (JAS) accredited publication.
The activity ended with positive impressions from the participants and with a promising outlook for future collaborations.
